چکیده

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to assess the metabolic abnormalities in high-risk stone formers. Methods This a retrospective observational done at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Nepal, over 1-year period. High-risk formers were identified and evaluated with serum chemistries 24-h urinary chemical evaluation. Stone analysis also included whenever available. Common results reported compared different studies. Continuous variables expressed as mean ± SD. Categorical percentage proportions. Results During 1 year period, sixty-five patients had undergone extensive evaluation, but complete data available for only forty-six patients. Of total ( n = 46), 63% male 29) rest (36.9%) female. Metabolic evaluation of first-time and recurrent stone formers.

Evaluation of stone formers should include careful attention to medications, past medical history, social history, family history, dietary evaluation, occupation, and laboratory evaluation. Laboratory evaluation requires at least serum chemistries and urinalysis. Twenty-four-hour urine collections are most appropriate for patients with recurrent stones or complex medical histories. However, the...

A Pilot Study of the Effect of Sodium Thiosulfate on Urinary Lithogenicity and Associated Metabolic Acid Load in Non-Stone Formers and Stone Formers with Hypercalciuria

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Sodium thiosulfate (STS) reduced calcium stone formation in both humans and genetic hypercalciuric stone forming (GHS) rats. We sought to measure urine chemistry changes resulting from STS administration in people. DESIGN SETTING PARTICIPANTS MEASUREMENTS: STS was given to healthy and hypercalciuric stone forming adults. Five normal non-stone forming adults (mean age 3...

The Use of Simple Metabolic Evaluation in Determining the Etiology of Recurrent Stone Formers

Urolithiasis is one of the most common disorders in urology practice with an incidence of 0.4-1% in industrialized countries [1]. On the other hand, even for childre...
